Lot 20506 – 1899 (Jan 28) Newspaper sent from the “Elba” in Singapore

1899 (Jan 28) “Corriere Toscano” newspaper sent from the “Elba” torpedo boat to Bologna, franked by 1896-97 2c tied by blue “Ra NAVE ELBA” cds on the day the battleship called at during its journey to China. One of the exceedingly few items recorded related to the San Mun Bay quarrel, unique for this kind of document and originating from Singapore.

Note: To reinforce its position in the San Mun Bay Quarrel (se following lot), Italy sent the “Divisione Navale dell’Estremo Oriente” of three additional battleships (including the “Stromboli” flagship) to support the “Marco Polo” and the “Elba” in China.
