Lot 20392 – One of the very few non-philatelic covers recorded paying the correct rate, franked by pair of 4L on 3d
1944 (June 9) Registered cover from Vir sent to the Red Cross Committee in Geneva, correctly franked -according to the 3.11.43 tariff- with marginal pair of 4L on 3d, tied by bilingual Vir cds, showing three strikes of the registration marking below, censorship closing label with accompanying German “Geprüft!/Postprüfstelle/Selbst. Feld-Kdtr. 1040 Montenegro” three-line cachet in purple at left (this “Kommandantur” having the H.Q. in Cettigne and a detachment in Bar); Vir was a small locality with few hundred inhabitants. One of the very few non-philatelic covers recorded paying the correct rate.
