Lot 20381 – The only non-philatelic cover recorded bearing a mixed franking with Italian express stamps
1944 (May 12) Registered express cover from Kotor to Split (Croatia), paying the external registered rate (4 lire postage plus 4 lire registration fee) with surcharged 1,50L on 50c pair in combination with two examples of Italy express 2,50L, tied by Kotor cds’s, with German “Platzkommandantur/Cattaro” censorship’s marking and Split receiving cds on back, with selvedge from a sheet of stamps used to close the letter at left (presumably by the censor at Split); the only non-philatelic cover recorded bearing a mixed franking with Italian express stamps, one of the most important gems of this territory; signed Caffaz.
