Lot 40295 – 1878, 1,000r grey slate, imperforate plate proofs, horizontal block of 24
1878, 1,000r grey slate, imperforate plate proofs on India paper without gum, a phenomenal horizontal block of 24 (6×4) from the bottom right corner of the sheet, with the characteristic precise impression of the plate proof, enhancing its beauty augmented by the rich colour, including the two ABN imprints in margins, in a good state of preservation with two vertical creases, these caused during the storage in the printer’s archive; the largest 1,000r plate proof multiple, of which two are in existence, also representing the largest multiple recorded exhibiting the highest “Dom Pedro” denomination -as the issued stamp records a block of four and a block of 18 as the largest unused and used multiples.
