Lot 40156 – 1876 10r vermilion, horizontal block of six and 100r

1876 10r vermilion, horizontal block of six and 100r pair, both on 14.7.1877 envelope (opened for display) from Rio de Janeiro to Marseilles, the block tied by small cds on dispatch, the 100r by indistinct circle hs, showing on reverse part of “Rio-Janeiro/Paq. Fr. J N°3” denoting carriage by the “Orenoque”, some faults to cover and diagonal crease passing through one 100r; an extremely rare franking to pay the single 260r rate as per the Bern Treaty and during the first month of the entry of Brazil in the U.P.U., as well as the only block of six so far recorded on cover, being the second largest multiple.
