Description

1857 (Apr 22) Wesleyan missionary wrapper addressed to London, England but missent to London, Canada in London, sent from Harbour Island travelling via private ship to N.Y., charged 5c with N.Y. packet stamp, then to London Ontario 5c changed in manuscript to 12 with additional “UNITED STATES / 6D” 2-line hs for transit to Canada by rail and rate corrected by hand to 17 1/2, reverse several Canadian transits and a fine “MISSENT – TO” hs, then returned to N.Y. via a FORWARDED hs, only to be charged with a manuscript 1/- on which it was likely carried on the RMS Packet Europa to Liverpool, a remarkably well travelled cover
