THE FAMOUS KANAI DARDENNE COVER
1859 Dardenne 1d. red, two vertical strips of four in different shades, with just touched to large margins, all cancelled by oval cancels on double-rate folded cover (missing side flaps) to Paris, bearing bs ‘GPO MAURITIUS/FE 6 1861’ large cds with Lyon and Paris cds alongside, on front with red Suez transit and “24” charge in manuscript. The bottom stamp of the upper strip showing the dot over “NN” variety.
Considered the most important item of the Dardenne issue and certainly one of the most important “Primitive” multi-franking covers of Mauritius.
