1878 (3.11) Folded combination cover from Alexandria to St Petersburg, Russia. Posted at the French Post Offfice, franked 25c., tied by ALEXANDRIE / EGYPTE / 3 OCT. 78 circular datestamp and an additional postmark alongside (the month should evidently be November, the officials seem to have forgotten to change the name of the month at the end of October). The letter was forwarded to the Italian Post Office ALESSANDRIA D’EGITTO / POSTE ITALIANE / 3 NOV 78 on the back of the cover, transit postmark of BRINDISI / 6 NOV 78 in Italy, arrival postmark of St Petersburg 30 OCT 78 (Julian calendar), a very fine usage to a rare destination
