Description
BRITISH OFFICES: 1876-81 Great Britain Used in the Dominican Republic: 4d vermilion, 4d sage-green and 1s green all with C86 of Porto Plata, plus 1 1/2d rose-red and 1s green, both with C87 of St. Domingo, a fine and scarce group (5) Please note: From 1866 to 1881 Great Britain had two Post Offices opened in the Dominican Republic, with a brief 2 years interruption in 1870-1871. Obliterator C86 corresponded to Porto Plata and the C87 to Santo Domingo. Both are very scarce. The C86 is known in RED over the Dominican Rep. stamps and in BLACK over the British stamps. C87 is known in RED and BLACK over the British stamps but NOT over the Dominican stamps. Cancellations C86 in BLACK over Dominican stamps are of great rarity.
