Double registered cover – with return receipt – from Meched Oct 1896 to London using the early 1896 newly opened route to Russia and Europe via Gaudan exchange office and Ashkabad in Turkistan, Russia and Baku. Franked 2x2sh and 2x10sh divided into postage 6sh, reg fee 12sh and return receipt fee 6sh, together 24 shahi. Arrived London 4 NO 96. Several reg. markings on front incl two private blue handstamps reading “REGISTERED” in English and “ANGLIA”, the latter in Russian. Both also had the text in Persian.
