1857 (Aug 13) Entire from Hobart to MALTA with 1856-57 2d dull emerald-green, touched at foot, and 4d blue, mixed margins, tied by “62” numerals, despatch cds adjacent and arrival bs, fine and very rare with highly interesting contents (see below), only two covers recorded by Tinsley (although this collection has three), with this being the only known 6d rate, as well as being a rare destination Apparently only five covers known with the 1856-57 2d Note: The contents of this cover include mention of the Port Arthur penal colony, and that it is “now the only Convict Establishment…which I approve (being) kept up as a Penal Establishment”, etc. Provenance: Tinsley lot 283
