1853 (Nov 11) Envelope sent registered from Hobart to England with 1853 4d bright brownish orange pl.1 strip of three, one stamp cut into, and 4d red-orange pl.1 single cut to shape, tied by “62” numerals, Hobart G.P.O. cds adjacent (date unclear), endorsed for transit by S.S. “Great Britain”, reverse with “LIVERPOOL / SHIP” green boxed ds, London and Monmouth cds, stamps appear to have been lifted and the cover lightly cleaned (not mentioned by cert.), still a fine and very early usage (third earliest known 4d franking according to Sato) Expertise: Cert.
