Description
1905-1906 REVOLUTION OF 1905: Group of six registered commercial covers from Windau (Ventspils, Latvija, Courland) and Riga to a Company in Lille, all six put into postal system outside Russian territory at Kobenhavn, Holtenau (Kiel), Lübeck and Eydtkuhnen (two covers have private ‘transit’ markings: Svendsen & Christensen / Nautical./Copenhagen & F.H.Bertling, Lübeck (also a shipping company) – all are obviously transported privetely (by ships, except maybe one by train) to these ports for departure to ensure their secure arrival to avoid the uncertainties & strikes of Russian Postal System in the Baltics during the Revolution, 1 cover one adhesive missing otherwise very fine, also including two old annotations and notes about these covers a very rare group and postal history documentation
NOTE: The 1905 Revolution led to a breakdown of most state organisations, institutions but by strikes of workers and peasants also to an interruption and stillstand of many companies and factories, so the management of companies used a kind of privet delivery system to ensure to get important messages and/or deliveries out of Russia without getting stopped through strikes or even getting confiscated by the revolutionaries Auction
