The Famous & Rare PARAHYBA PROVISIONAL 1930 (May) Zeppelin Pan-American Return Flight picture postcard to Monte Carlo franked with the large “5” Handstamped Surcharge on the 20,000r blue Zeppelin issue tied to picture side by Condor Syndicate / … / PARAHYBA special cds, with boxed “M. P.” hs alongside. A 500r Mercury is similarly tied on reverse, which also has violet diamond-shaped flight cachet and F’hafen bs (6.6.30), and two Beausoleil hs (one square, other 10.6.30 bs), very fine, signed & cert. H.W. Sieger (1960). It is thought the Condor Syndicate agent in Parahyba handstamped a small quantity of his stock of 20’000r stamps with a large black “5” because his supply of 5’000r stamps was exhausted. To date, three unused examples and seven used on cover or card from Parahyba or Recife, plus one on piece, are all that are known.
