Description
1937 Hindenburg Crash Cover. Envelope intended for the return journey and transported to North America by airship following the ill-fated Hindenburg airship LZ 129. This mail was contained in a box and survived the disaster unscathed, so the covers were postmarked May 10 New York PAQUEBOT. Very few of these covers were intended for international transport, such as this one to Switzerland. It was delivered to the recipient with a separate letter from the Basel District Postal Directorate on May 26, 1937, less than three weeks after the disaster. A truly remarkable find for any collector of Swiss air or Zeppelin mail collector. (Sieger 454 Cb; Mi. 63Da €4’000 plus €4’000 for the postal administration letter). 1937 Hindenburg Unglücksfahrt des LZ 129 mit dem Luftschiff nach Nordamerika befördert und für die Rückfahrt vorgesehene Post. Diese Post befand sich in einer Kasette und überstand unbeschadet das Unglück, so dass die Belege mit dem Stempel May 10 New York PAQUEBOT versehen wurden. Ganz wenige Stücke dieser Post waren für die Beförderung ins Ausland vorgesehen, wie dieser Beleg in die Schweiz. Er wurde dem Empfänger mit einem eigenen Schreiben der Kreispostdirektion Basel 26. Mai 1937, also nicht einmal drei Wochen nach dem Unglück, bereits zugestellt. Sieger 454 Cb and Michel 63 D a (EUR 8000). Ein ganz großes Highlight für jeden Schweizer Flug- oder Zeppelinpostsammler.
