1857, 10c. green, horizontal strip of three with good to large margins, 3c. dull red single and 1c. blue all in sound condition (most margins complete) on cover from « ECONOMY Ind. MAR.9 » via New York with rectangular framed transit « AACHEN 14.4. FRANCO » and tax-handstamp « 12 » in red to Laufenberg, Switzerland, on reverse transit of « BASEL BRIEF.EXPEDITION 16.APR. 1857 », the 3 c. and one of 10 c. stamps cancelled by superb circular datestamp, the other stamps cancelled by diagonal pen strokes, EXTREMELY ATTRACTIVE AND RARE 35 c. franking to SWITZERLAND (no similar franking is to be found in Siegel’s auction archives).
