Lot 70165 – 1860-63 6d. slate, unused without gum, handstamped
1860-63 6d. slate, unused without gum, handstamped « SPECIMEN » diagonally in red serifed characters (Samuel type HK1), extremely rare with this being the only known example on this value, with a single copy of the 1/- green being recorded. An important item for both Mauritius and Hong Kong philately. Cert B.P.A (2001).
Note: previously regarded as a Hong Kong local overprint, it is now believed to have been applied at Somerset house. See enclosed article from the Hong Kong study circle journal no 315 (Oct 2000).
