1827 (Jul 10) wrapper from Pondicherry to Tranquebar (Dutch settlement in India), reverse with framed « PONDICHERRY / POST PAID » (Giles type 4, who notes that this might not be a P.O. handstamp but a field post hs, rated « rare », and this example used 12 years after Giles’ recorded period of use), obverse endorsed « A4 » for postage, addressee name neatly excised, very fine and very rare.
