Lot 10672 – 1941-43 WWII Western Desert North African campaign

1941-43 WWII Western Desert North African campaign collection of around 300 covers written up on pages, mostly with the FPO cancels and censor cachets identified, along with the cover’s wartime context. As such, the collection commences with the 1941 Tobruk campaign and includes many covers to Australia, then we proceed to El Alamein and Operation Torch, through to the Tunisian campaigns of 1943. A huge variety of different FPOs, censor cachets, frankings and destinations (most to UK) are included, there are some covers to POWs, and the thorough and immaculately researched detail provides the context for this fascinating collection. Also included is a 20 page letter, in effect an ‘eye witness’ account of the Tobruk campaign. Viewing will be greatly rewarded.
