1857 O.H.M.S. Stampless Registered Cover – STE ANNE LA POCATIERE “FREE” and “REGISTERED”

Stampless O.H.M.S. envelope to the Commissaire des Terres de la Couronne, sent via Quebec (backstamp) to Toronto, bearing a clear red STE ANNE LA POCATIERE L.C., FE 11 1857 circular datestamp. Includes red oblique “FREE” and “REGISTERED” handstamps alongside. Missing portions of reverse/backflap. Colourful, attractive, and scarce.

Note: Registration fees were not free; within Canada, a 1d registration fee applied even when the postage was free.
