Canton 1833 (18 Oct.) thick entire letter to Old Rain, Aberdeenshire, Scotland with manuscript endorsement “H.C.S. Scaleby Castle”; on back is note « rec’d 4 March 1834 ». An exceptional, heavy letter that was most likely privately forwarded; 8 letter sheets (30+ pages) from a private correspondence in which a young trader describes his arrival to the port of Whampoa and to a commercial factory in Canton, with lots of detail about the city of Canton and commercial life in Canton, Singapore, Macao. Some heavy folds, remaining an important historical document of which very few like this exist.
