Gupta Empire, Chandragupta II, c. 380-413, AV dinar, 7.73 g. (20 mm). Obverse: ‘chhatra’ type; king with hair draped over shoulders, wearing loin cloth and left hand resting on sword, standing left, sacrificing on a fire, attendant at right holding parasol (chhatra) over the king, circular Brahmi legend around. Reverse: Lakshmi, standing turned to left, holding long-stemmed lotus flower in her left hand, and diadem in right, with tamgha to left and Brahmi legend to right, vikkramadityah. Kumar, TOTGE 2024, Class I, variety C4.2. Raven, CG2/group 5.
A very well-struck and detailed example of the parasol type that was introduced by King Chandragupta II and which did not show the Garuda next to king.
