Lot 1073 – Kushanas, Shaka, c. mid-4th century, AV dinar, 7.71 g. Ardoksho
Kushanas, Shaka, c. mid-4th century, AV dinar, 7.71 g. (19 mm). Obverse: Shaka, standing facing, head with halo left, wearing conical decorated hat, sacrificing over altar and holding staff, trident with ribbons to left, with Brahmi inscription shaka at right, bhri under arm. Reverse: Ardoksho enthroned, facing, holding garland and cornucopia, tamgha left.
A coin from the uncertain Kushan late chronology, it is thought that Shaka was one of the last rulers of the Kushan Empire. The different types of his coins are distinguished by variations in the Brahmi letter appearing under the king’s left arm.
