Lot 10072 – Kushanas, Vasudeva, c. 190-230, Oesho, AV dinar, 7.89 g.
Kushanas, Vasudeva, c. 190-230, AV dinar, 7.89 g. (19 mm). Obverse: Vasudeva, nimbate, helmeted, and diademed, standing facing, head left, holding trident, sacrificing over altar to left; trident with ribbons to left, swastika between the king’s legs, Bactrian legend around. Reverse: Oesho standing facing, holding a diadem in extended right hand and trident in left; behind, the bull Nandi standing left, Bactrian OHÞO to right, tamgha left.
About VF, well-centered.
A late issue of Vasudeva’s coin, showing the swastika between legs and a crescent shape on Oesho/Shiva’s forehead, an iconographical innovation that since has dominated representations to this day. The slightly concave shape of the coin could suggest influence from Sasanian coinage.
