Kushanas, Huvishka, c. 151-192, AV dinar, 7.64 g. (21 mm). Obverse: Crowned half-length bust left on clouds, halo around head, holding scepter, with Bactrian legend around. Reverse: winged Oaninda (Nike – Victory) standing facing with head left, holding wreath and scepter, tamgha in left field, with Bactrian legend to right, dotted border around.
Fine-VF, well-centered.
An extremely rare Oaninda dinar, with only two examples listed in Coinarchives. A similar coin sold with CNG 117, 2021, lot 379 (5000 usd). The figure of Oaninda is a parallel to the Classical Nike, a type that was well-known to the inhabitants of the region. The name may derive from the Avestan Vanainti, a star and goddess associated with Verethragna (Varahran), the god who appears on Kushan coinage as Orlagno.
