Kushanas, Vima Kadphises, c. 113-127 AD, AV double dinar, 15.84 g. (26 mm). Obverse: diademed and crowned half-length bust of Vima Kadphises left on clouds, holding mace-scepter in right hand and hilt of sword in left; flames at shoulder; tamgha to right, encircled by Greek inscription BACIΛEYC OH MO KAΔΦICHC (King Vima Kadphises). Reverse: Siva standing facing, head left, holding trident in right hand and resting left arm on bull Nandi behind, who is standing right with head facing; Buddhist symbol triratna to left, Karoshti legend around.
VF, well-defined details, some pitting on the high points on the head and bust.
A rare and impressive double stater coin with bilingual inscriptions, including Karoshti that lists the titles of the king; ‘great saviour, ruler of the world, great Lord’. With a reverse featuring the deity Oesho, who in the early Kushan period was associated with the Hindu god Shiva.
