Greco-Bactrian Kingdom, Euthydemos I, struck c. 225-200 BC, Baktra mint, AV stater 8.22 g. (19 mm) Obverse: diademed head of youthful king facing right within dotted border. Reverse: ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΕΥΘYΔΗΜΟΥ Heracles seated left on rock, holding a club, his lower hand resting on another pile of rocks.

An exceedingly rare coin to be minted in gold; purely Greek in inspiration and showing a youthful portrait of the king (the development of the portrait would show a steady maturing, and is considered one of the masterpieces of portraiture of the Bactrian royal series).
