1796 (May 2nd) Folded Seaman’s entire from Belfast to a serving mariner on board HMS « Regular » at Portsmouth sent at the military concession rate with manuscript « 1 » on the face, showing clear crisp red « BELFAST » alongside, with London « MA/8/96 » cds and horseshoe PLYMOUTH in black, cover somewhat tatty with tear, extremely rare; ex Jay.
Note: Sent in the first year of this Seaman military rate as per the Act for Ireland which was passed in March 1796.
