Lot 10585 – Oaxaca 13c + 25c lithographed on Tehuantepec cover

Oaxaca 13c blue + 25c buff lithographed (consignment #48-1866 sub 53), clear to predominantly large margins, on very attractive cover from Tehuantepec to Oaxaca dated September 23, 1866, tied by boxed hs (Schatzkès # 1070). This sub is unrecorded by Chapman. This is a difficult consignment because a large portion of it was stolen in transit from Mexico City -the district was not re-supplied as it soon came under Juarist control-. Covers from small towns are very scarce as they received very little stamps.
