Lot 10150 – 1843, 90r black, late impression, « cracked plate » – « chapa quebrada » variety, used at Paranaguá

Paranaguá (SP) 1843, 90r black, late impression, a well margined example featuring the « cracked plate » – « chapa quebrada » variety consisting in colourless area below the « 9 » at left within the ‘eye’, where a black flaw is located with traces of the printing ink extending to the left margin, and the frame line being broken in two places at left, cancelled by framed « PARANAGUÁ. » hs in black (Ayres 1384). A very fine example of this exceedingly scarce variety, being further enhanced by an unusual cancellation; no examples of this rarity were found in the Luis Alemany Indarte and Hugo Goeggel collections.
