1840 (Aug 4). Entire letter from Aldeia Nova (Portugal) to Vitoria (ES), with light strike of « Lixa » oval applied in transit at base, entering Brazil at Rio de Janeiro with corresponding « Rio/De/Janeiro » circle handstamp in brown, charged « 120 » on dispatch with « 280 » réis due on delivery, with three good strikes of « Vitoria » straight-line hs in red. A rare incoming transatlantic mail and, in case of being genuine (it requires a certificate), the only example recorded of the « Vitoria » postmark (unlisted in the RHM catalogue). An additional 1838 letter (toned) sent by the same sender and also addressed to Vitoria is included, bearing the same postmarks except « Vitoria ». (Sold « as is »).
