Lot 60111 – Colombia: 1859-1866, Spectacular collection in three albums with thousands of stamps

Colombia: 1859-1866, Spectacular collection of the classic issue, in three stockbooks, with few thousand stamps in unused and used condition, with large duplication for the greatest part of the values, showing a wide range of shades, plate flaws, postmarks (rare examples are included throughout) and multiples. Quite a number of scarce and underpriced stamps are included also in mint condition, like the numerous examples of 1859 1p rose on bluish (only about ten known according to the auction catalogue of the « Esmeralda » collection), a number of the scarce 1860 5c on laid paper (Scott 9), unused and used, several mint examples of the 1860 20c blue; the 1861 issue of the United States of New Granada is very well represented in unused or used with impressive displays in quantities of all denominations, this being a unique assembly for this issue an extremely difficult to obtain. The rare 1862 issue with several examples of the 20c red or the 1p red on bluish (Scott 23), later bisects, and a large a number of the famous 1866 5p and 10p high values. A stunning lot of classic Colombia, the largest we have recall to have ever offered, also being very useful for plating purposes. The condition is like usual from slightly mixed to very fine. A unique lot of these fascinating and exotic issues, making up a great stock for a dealer or a marvellous assembly for a collector to develop studies. Viewing highly recommended.
