2d blue, position 12, close to large margins and neatly tied by framed boxed ‘BLACK RIVER/JA.9.1858’, on 1858 folded entire from Black River via « overland mail » to La Fleche, France, with an array of transit and arrival markings on front and reverse, covers faults and repaired by reinforcements, an attractive usage, apparently unique

Rate: 4d overseas rate. Manuscript « Paid 4 » indicating a further charge of 2d having been paid in cash, making the 4d overseas rate, as per the postal rates from the Government Gazette of 1st May 1858 and handstruck « 8 » decimes charge in black (ds on arrival in France with 8 decimes = 7 1/2 grams), under the Anglo-French Postal Convention on 1856.
