Description
1887-91 Siam 8a green & yellow on piece tied by TRINGANU 26.5.92 cds, faults, the first and only example discovered of a Siam stamp used in Trengganu
A report dated March 1895 stated « an overland line of Postal Communications had been opened between Singora and Kelantan, via Patani and Ranga on the east coast of Malay Peninsula. » This also mentioned that Kelantan (Kota Bharu) Post Office opened in 1895.
The Trengganu Post Office was obviously opened before this, the mail must have been collected and delivered by sea.
On checking the first UPU Dictionary, published March 1895, both the Kelantan and Trengganu (Tringanu) post offices were listed. This would mean that, allowing time for publication, they were both open at the beginning of the year. The first supplement to the UPU Dictionary, published July 1895, lists the Trengganu office as being closed, which would account for the fact that this is the first example discovered. The closure of the office was probably due to lack of business, or the opposition of the Sultan, or both. Vente aux enchères
