RARE USE OF 1849 « FRANCA. » LABEL The postmaster of Callao, who ran the Lima-Callao mail, wanted to spare his large customers the trip to the post office for every letter, especially the standard ones that cost 1 real. He introduced gummed labels which could be bought in advance; the few covers known are dated March to June 1849 and December 1849.
