Limerick Ship Letter – 1827 (April 18) Entire letter from Montevideo, Uruguay to London, landed on the west coast of Ireland and bearing on the face a fine strike of the fancy scroll “SHIP LETTER” handstamp of Limerick in red, with matching LIMERICK / SE.11.1827 / 94 mileage circular datestamp, also in red, alongside.
Rated “3/2” (later amended to “3/8”) for a double rate letter — comprising 6d Ship Letter, 14d mileage, and 2d packet charges, doubled. Reverse with transit and London arrival backstamps.

A great rarity of maritime postal history, being the only recorded example of the Limerick Scroll “Ship Letter” marking.
