Description

1861 PATRIOTIC COVER « Our compromise. The Federal Union – It must and shall be preserved » (Flag and Canon) franked by 1860 30c orange (very fine and of strong colour) tied by blue « TOLEDO O. MAY 14 » (Ohio) cds sent to Stuttgart, Württemberg, Germany per Prussian Closed Mail via Liverpool and Aachen. Extremely fine and fresh. The 30c of the 1857-1861 issue is very rare on patriotic cover as this issue was demonetized due to the Civil War soon after this cover was mailed. (Scott 38 on patriotic cover = 9000 USD. Philatelic Foundation certificate (2017).
