1840 (Sep 8) 2d Mulready envelope, stereo a202, sent from London to « Wingan » (Wingham, Kent), uprated with 1840 1d black pl.6 QK (showing re-entry in « K » square), good even margins, and both cancelled by red Maltese Cross, further manuscript « 1 » indicating 1d paid in cash to pay the 4d rate, with Vere Street « Maltese Cross » despatch ds, minor soiling, a very rare uprated usage of the 2d Mulready with both a stamp and cash payment.Expertise: Cert.
