Lot 81006 – 1816 Austrian Post in Wallachia: Official cover se

1816 Austrian Post in Wallachia: Official cover sent by the Austrian Agency in Bucharest to Hermannstadt (now Sibiu) in Transylvania, Austria, bearing a very early strike of the scarce « BVKAREST/in der WALACHEY » marking in black and a clear quarantine marking from Rothenthurm (Turnu Roșu) reading « SIGILLUM SANITATIS, » applied at the mountain border pass. The cover was also disinfected, showing numerous punch holes. Blistyar (2011) lists the earliest date as 1817, so this item might be the earliest recorded. Ironed folds, fine condition.
