Description
1868 Unpaid letter from Karlsbad (Jul. 20/Aug. 1, 1868) to Patras (Jul. 31/Aug. 12, 1868) via Trieste (Jul. 26/Aug. 7, 1868) and Athens (Jul. 31/Aug. 12, 1868). Taxed at the arrival at 85 lepta, written on red pencil, corresponding to the sum of 30 lepta (10 kreuzer) for the transit from Venice to Trieste, 30 lepta (10 kreuzer) for the transportation by the Lloyd Austrian mail boats company, and 20 lepta for the Greek domestic rate for a letter up to 15 grams according to the 1850 & 1867 conventions and to the circulaire n°9 of Apr. 10, 1868 (applicable starting May 1, 1868) between Greece & Austria and Greece & Austrian Lloyd. Very unique destination. The two stamps are from the consecutive Athens printings (1862/1867) . The 5 lepta is faulty. Plate flaw of the « cercle mince » on the 5 lepta. Very rare destination (RRR).
