Carolina via Carrickfergus to Edinburgh, on arrival from it’s transatlantic journey the letter was struck by the unique two line CkFERGUS/SHIP – LETTER in red, rated « 1/4 » and calculated as follows, 5d letter rate plus 2d packet and 9d Portpatrick to Edinburgh (159 miles), an important showpiece

This is the only recorded usage of the Carrickfergus Ship Letter handstamp to date
