1843, Calcutta, two letters dated 19th Dec. sent to Penniwick near Edinburgh, a rare example of an original and duplicate letter preserved together, one sent by the ship route via the Cape, and the other by overlandmail via Southampton; a rare survival (usually only one letter would be archived), with lots of notations and postmarks for the specialist to study; mounted on two pages with detailed analysis. Also letter Madras to Edinburgh 1838 with endorsement « By first steamer »; scarce material with some browning and light damage to letters.
