Envelope from Rome to Milford, prepaying the 32 baj rate (1858 French-Papal Convention) with 1852 8b in two pairs, tied by grids and « Roma » cds. red French transit, red « 3 » French credit tying one pair, octagonal « Br. Service » hs and « PORTLAND ME/PAID15 » cds in red confirming that the internal 15c was prepaid; a very scarce mail from the Papal States showing the exchange marking of Portland (no similar item was included in the Richard F. Winter collection); carried by the Allan Line « Bohemian ».
