5c Indian Red (Scott 28A). Vertical strip of three, beautiful colour in the unmistakable deep Indian Red shade, tied by « New Orleans La. Jan. 10, 1859 » circular date stamp and red « New York Paid 12 19 Jan. » credit date stamp on cover to Nantes, France. Natural straight edge a right, the upper stamp has one short perf, the stamp in the middle of the strip is in sound condition and the bottom stamp has at left some blunted perfs, otherwise a rare and nice cover from a newly discovered small correspondence to Nantes.
