Description

1865 (Feb 23) envelope from Birmingham to Brazil with 1862-64 9d bistre pair, tied by « 75 » duplexes, endorsed « pr French Steamer » and paying double the 9d rate, with Calais transit and on backflap a scarce French paquebot « POSTES FRANCAISES / NAVARRE » octagonal ds (Salles 1.008, rated 500), some minor cover foxing, a very scare multiple franking of the 9d as well as being sent via the French packet via Navarre.
