Description

1824 (21.1) Large part folded letter sent from London to Newry, rated “1/3” paying the London to Dublin, deleted and rerated « 1/10 » pay a further 7d Dublin to Newry, and showing a clear strike of the Newry REFUSED straight line hs in black, the letter was refused and returned by Pat Bradley whose endorsement on reverse was superimposed by the NEWRY/50 mileage marking, vertical tear through the centre of the cover, an extremely rare usage as there are only three recorded example of the Newry handstamp.


One of only five recorded Refused mkgs of the whole island of Ireland, exhibition showpiece.
