Description
Saudi Arabia: 1885-1946 Award-winning exhibition collection of the postal history of Saudi Arabia from the early Ottoman Empire, through to the Hashimite period, on to Hejaz and Nejd post, and finally to the establishment of the Kingdom and the World War II period.

The five-frame exhibit on 80 pages shows approximate 120 items of postal history with envelopes, postal stationery, and an extensive array of registered usages, showing a fine range of registered markings and or registered labels, plus some censored, « Valeurs Déclarée », airmail and postage due usages present.

The key items are presented in frame order included in the Ottoman Empire (Frame 1) only recorded usage of the Mecca double ring on strip of six, extremely rare and possibly unique unrecorded oval registered Mecca in combination with « AR », El-Ula negative, Arabic only 2-line FEE PAID, bilingual unframed FEE PAID, the Hashimite Post (Frame 2) YAMBO cds on censored cover, apparently the only recorded usage of the TAIF registered hs on a label, plus very rare usage of the Nejd fiscal in strip of three, the Hejaz and Nejd period (Frame 3) with « Valeurs Déclarée » showing unusual usage of the 10pi chocolate value, similar « Valeurs Déclarée » with 10pi and 20pi usages tie MEKKE telegraph ds, rare destination « Valeurs Déclarée » from Mecca to Copenhagen, 1/2pi stationery envelope used in combination with Egyptian postage dues, Kingdom period (Frame 4) mixed issue Hejaz and Nejd and Kingdom, various rare combination and other usages with Charity issues, finally the Second World War (Frame 5) showing Dutch Legation in Jeddah, consular usage from the American Legation, extremely rare usage from ALLITH, plus AL-KHARJ boxed registered hs apparently only a few recorded etc.

A truly wonderful collection that tells the story of Saudi Arabia’s rich postal history.
