Vertical pair of 1852–57 3d deep red on thin soft horizontally ribbed paper, fine to good margins, tied by ink strokes with SPRINGVILLE circular datestamp with inked date 12 June 1858 adjacent along with red “CANADA PAID 10 Cts.” handstamp of Toronto, addressed to Shawnee Mound, Indiana.

Pays the 6d U.S. letter rate, valid from 1 July 1851, a notable example of early Canadian cross-border usage on vertical pair with clear markings.
