1858 A selection of five official letters and one cover from Rowland Hill to George Hamilton (MP for Dublin) and Assistant secretary to the treasury (later became permanent secretary to the treasury), the correspondence recorded between 23rd September and 15th November, regarding the new arrangements for the Irish Postal service, and the routing of mails via Holyhead and Chester (in 1840 most mail went via Liverpool); a very rare and important assembly of exhibition quality. The Chester and Holyhead railway was an early railway company conceived to improve transmission of Government dispatches between London and Ireland.
