Gupta Empire, Kumaragupta II, c. 473-476, AV dinar, 9.36 g. (21 mm). Obverse: ‘archer’ type, king with layered curls wearing tunic with long tails over loin cloth and long, thin sash tied at waist with knot standing left, holding longbow in left hand, arrow in right, Garuda standard at left, name in Brahmi under arm ku with crescent above. Reverse: Lakshmi seated with folded legs facing on lotus, holding diadem and long-stemmed lotus left, Brahmi legend to right kramaditya (instead of the usual kramadityah), dotted border around. A rare archer type of Kumaragupta II. Raven, KG2/group 1.
EF, attractive appearance, nice high relief, lustrous and in wonderful state of preservation, with well-defined features on both sides, very attractive details on the king’s attire and face.
